Visiting Schools Program 2009/10
Give your students a unique opportunity to live and learn with Makhampom, to produce and perform theatre, to make and create art, and to engage and exchange with village communities.
The Makhampom Foundation invites visiting schools for camps, residentials, and study tours at the Makhampom Living Theatre in Chiang Dao district of Chiang Mai province in northern Thailand. Programs will be tailor-made to suit the interests of each school, combining activities from four topics facilitated by Makhampom: Performance Workshops/Masterclasses, Art & Craft Activities, Community Service Programs, and Local Culture Experiences (see details below).
The Venue
The Makhampom Living Theatre is a self-contained centre on the edge of Chiang Dao town, in the Ping River valley, at the foot of Doi Luang mountain. It includes a unique theatre/workshop building, a traditionally-styled dormitory guesthouse, a kitchen/dining area, and a playground, surrounded by lakes, gardens, and rice-fields. Chiang Dao district is 70km north of Chiang Mai and is home to many northern Thai farming communities and several different ethnic hill-tribe groups.
The Lifestyle
Sleeping is traditional, with mattresses and mosquito nets, and meals are catered for, with Western/Thai breakfasts and locally prepared popular Thai and northern-style meals for lunches and dinners. There will be opportunities to sample local foods and snacks. The lakes and river are swimming spots. Badminton and table tennis equipment are available. And there are over twenty bicycles for riding in the community.
The Costs
Costs will be calculated according to the program and will vary based on the number of students, length of program, and the types of activity.
