Refugee Program 
 

          Makhampom has worked in partnership with Community Based  
     Organisations (CBOs) and Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs) on  
     the
 Thai Burma border since 2000, and with communities from Burma,  
     including:

         • Facilitating a long-term youth and health worker training program
     on   HIV awareness and stigma reduction, in the Nupo and Umphiem Mai
     camps in 2008, and the Mae Ra Muang and Mae La Oo camps in 2009, in
     partnership with AMI and the Karen Student Network Group, and
     supported by the UNHCR

 


 










        

      • Working with youth in three refugee camps, using theatre for communicating around issues of legal aid and gender based violence in partnership with the International Rescue Committee (IRC) 

      • Training facilitators in civic education and facilitating workshops for camp leaders in dispute resolution (in partnership with the IRC) 

     • Providing ongoing theatre training to Karen Student Network Group’s (KSNG) community drama program, and running short workshops for interested participants from KSNG, Karen Women’s Organisation (KWO) and Karen Youth Organisation (KYO)

     • Facilitating exchange activities with the Australia Karen Youth Project (AKYP) between refugees in Mae La and Mae La Oo refugee camps and visiting Australian youth groups since 2000

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

      • Directing and facilitating a Karen Community Theatre Project in Melbourne, Australia, for recently arrived Karen communities to represent their cause to Australian audiences
