Makhampom Living Theatre & Training Centre
Makhampom’’s new centre in the countryside fo Chiang Dao combines the concept of living theatre with a community cultural venue for local villages and a regional training centre.
This Centre in Chiang Dao has been in the planning for 7 years. Completed in January 2007, it includes:
The Theatre
Designed by the community architectur (CASE) project in collaboration with Makhampom, the theatre building, facing out to doi Luang mountain, is an orginal design combining different materials, textures, and angles. It is a long auditorium, situated on a lade, with a spacious multifunction balcony, stage area, office, storeroom, and three bathrooms.
   
The Guesthouse
The guesthouse is a beautiful wooden building built onto Makhampom’’s ricefield, consisting of two large dormitories, a guest bedroom, a meeting room/library/living room, a six bathroom amenity block, a children’’s play area, and large open spaces upstairs and downstairs. The guesthouse can accommodate 40 guests with special housing available for families with children.
   
The Kitchen
The kitchen and dining area is an open, spacious building with tables and chairs beside the lake, being the gathering place of the centre, with a floating ’’tea hut’’ alongside the kitchen on the lake.
   
The Grounds
The grounds also include organic ricefields and vegetable gardens, a children’’s playground, sculpture garden, and the Makhampom ’’village’’ of four staff houses.
  
The Surrounds
The Makhampom Centre sits alongside the farming villages of Tung Luk and Ban Dong on the edge of Chiang Dao about 500 metres from the Ping River, one kilometre from the centre of town, with Chiang Dao cave and Doi Luang mountain to the west, Makhampom’’s Pakyaw and Dalaang partner villages to the east, hot springs and waterfalls to the north, and the Chiang Mai road going south.
